i was just reading the assembley instruction for the visa. it says to use a 2 hole punch at the top. it also says to use acco fastners or "heavy clips". what is a heavy clip? is it a heavy paper clip or is it a pinch clip like a clothes pin? and if you have it in a presentation binder should you use clips at all?

mikeo,

It's not a Theseus or business presentation...no grade for the best presentation.. ;) Heavy clip as in 'pinch clip' or 'bear clip' or even paper clip. There's no wrong way and no matter which way we do it, it gets taken apart and put however they chose anyway...

A general business rule:

  • Staple multi-part forms together
  • Clip groups (sections) of documents together
  • Fasten entire package together
  • Avoid stapling 'things' that a clerk will have to separate (as a courtesy)

All I did was punch the two holes at the top and separated each part by application (K-1 petition, G325a, etc.) didn't use clips of any kind. We were approved shortly thereafter. Nothing special about how we presented the information...just made sure they had what they wanted. No RFE either.

Some people get so caught up in how it's presented...and still some get RFE's for missing info. Just make sure everything is there and in order. IMHO that's all that really matters. :)

well i must disagree with you on that one. it is a presentation, to a government office. and although there is no "grade" for best presentation, i don't think it would hurt to show you put some effort into it. thank you for your answer & advice. i though that was what heavy clip meant.

They redo you petition to fit what they want. It gets put into a folder they have there. If you send a binder its just going to get thrown out. If the info is there and readable, thats all you need to worry about. I just used big paperclips to seperate sections. No punch holes etc. for us!

Same here, never used a binder or hole punch, just made sure all the info they wanted was in there. I think it's more important to just submit the required info as quickly as possible. This wait is excruciatingly long, the sooner you send it the better.

The hole punches at the top is for the type folders they use...or so I was informed a couple years ago.

The hole punches took me all of maybe two minutes.
