Rescheduling biometrics (Form I-797C)

I found some similar topics but they are old and/or do not address my specific question... This is rather urgent so your quick response is greatly appreciated !

My wife is the green card holder and she's out of the country until 7/19 while we received an biometrics appointment for 7/3. Therefore, we will have to reschedule the appointment. The instructions say to mail the original form to a (non-local) ASC address. We would like to include a letter explaining why she cannot make the 7/3 appointment, assuming that's a reasonable thing to do. Our question is is there a need for a her signature on that letter? If so, the only way she can provide that is to print, sign, and scan the letter back to me for mailing. We are afraid if she doesn't sign it herself or there's no signature we might get in serious trouble.

If you have rescheduled via mail before please let me know!!!!

We are adjusting from the 2-year green card to the 10-year green card.

Update: My wife was able to call USCIS and received a call back from them (she's overseas, which has been difficult as hell) to reschedule the appointment. Note that it has to be the applicant, not the sponsor - who is calling. We get a new date 7/29 so it's all good now. Well except there's no record so we might have to call again just to confirm the date and time. No need to snail mail the request then!!!!
