How should this birth certificate discrepancy be handled?

One of my employee's sons is applying for a K-1 Visa for his fiancee in India. After they submitted her original birth certificate with translation, they received a request for an english version of the birth certificate. The issue is that the names on the original birth certificate and the one the english version they obtained are different. Evidently, often times in India names are given on a birth certificate if the parents haven't yet chosen a name. At some point the birth certificate was updated with her actual name (she wasn't aware), so the english version they obtained shows her real name not the name on the original hindi version. They previously included an affidavit in the application regarding the name change.

Any concerns regarding the name discrepancy between the original copy in hindi and the english version they received? Should they resubmit the original hindi version, english version, affidavit, and a letter of explanation regarding the discrepancy? Or just the english version as requested? The concern is that any misstep could result in denial so they want to make sure they do it right.  Appreciate ANY help at all, and hope I was able properly explain the situation. Thank you!

Just send the English version as requested. It's actually not uncommon for birth certificates to contain updated names.

Ultimately she may need to provide legal evidence of the name change (was the affidavit a legal name change from a government authority, or just a signed and sworn statement?) They may need evidence that the name is legally different, or how the change happened. If the affidavit can prove the legal change, then nothing more would need to be done.

Thank you very much. It was a signed and sworn statement. Should they still proceed with just sending the English version as requested?

Only send what they have requested. If they need more information on why they differ, they'll definitely request that.
