Travel with expired Green Card?

Hi, all

I have a permanent residence card that I just realized expired in March. We are set to travel out of the country in July. I applied for a renewed card but it wont be here in time. I read about an TEMPORARY I-551 stamp but all the offices I try and get an appointment with are not taking walk-ins or infopas appointments. 

 

Has anyone any experience with this. If I show u with an expired green card will I be able to travel? How can I get an appointment at an office to get the 1-551 stamp?

You can always travel out of the US, but you won't be getting back in on an expired green card or stamp without an extension letter or new I551 stamp

Do not leave the US without a valid green card (or I-551 stamp). While there are ways to get a boarding foil abroad, it's expensive, time consuming, and unpleasant.

 

If your USCIS field office isn't accepting Infopass appointments, you have to call USCIS to schedule an appointment for the stamp.
