Hello fellow Brits!

Just a quick question. I previously posted it in amongst a monstrous topic I made about AOS stuff, so I'll break it down to put it here instead for those with experience in this area.

I'm now married and have changed my name to that of my husband's. My UK passport, however, is not up for renewal until 2024. Do I have to get a fresh passport with my married name on it, or can I keep using it to travel under my maiden name? It's doubtful that I'll even be travelling anywhere save for the odd trip back to the UK between now and renewal, so honestly my passport will only be serving as photo ID until I can secure a state-issued one for myself.

Thanks in advance!

You can still use your passport as it is. Or you can change it. Your choice. International air tickets will have to be booked in your passport name. If that differs from the name on your GC you will need to carry a copy of the marriage certificate with you when you fly.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Perfect, thank you so much!

Considering that dealing with the passport office is pretty much always expensive business, I think I'll keep my passport until renewal and simply carry a certified marriage certificate with me whenever I travel, ensuring to use my maiden name on tickets etc.

I answered in your other thread how to get one. Agree you can keep the current one.
