Do I need to inform my employer of status change

Not really but you should - they won't bother you when your authorization (green card expiration date) gets close.  There is no benefit difference from GC to UCS.

Timeline

My employer reviews employee immigration status annually, obviously to ensure that we are all legally allowed to work in the US.  I will give HR my naturalization certificate to photocopy for my file once I receive it at my oath ceremony.

10/24/2017   Traveled to Minneapolis for I551 stamp

02/02/2018    Filed N-400 online

02/05/2018    NOA online - NOA letter 02/09/2018

02/21/2018     Biometrics walk-in
