Hi VJ family.

Have a question. We sent our I-485 docs here in San Diego last May 9 via USPS Registered Mail. They delivered the docs to these zip codes: Chicago IL 60699 and sent to 60607. I put the correct address (PO Box 805887 Chicago IL 60680-4120).

I am clueless if USCIS got our documents. I called the Chicago Postal Service 60607 and said that the 60680 zip code's in the same building.

It's been three weeks now since we sent our document. We didn't expect this looong...... M so pissed on the mailing system.

How will I know if USCIS got our papers? I don't want to re-send the documents again because they might double encashing the checks.

Somebody experience the same or could give us helpful hints? Thanks in advance.

Jenny and Manny

It can be frusterating when your case is delayed by incompatancy on the govts. side.

I suggest to you first check to see when the checks were cashed that is an indication that your package was received & accepted.

Initially after your package is received and your are given

a RD Receipt Date, you will start receiving NOA's Notice of Actions.

I remember driving myself crazy Waiting for these to show up in the mail.

It is a waiting game for now. The best indication on whether or not you should worry or schedule Infopass appt. is if your NOA's And notices are not arriving within the average time of other members in this forum.

Look at my signature, you can see the aprox time between actions leading up to our interview and GC.

Good Luck try not to worry too much, and dont stress your slef out by constantly checking Updates on USCIS website.

We did that and found the Website was not an accurate measure of the progress of our case, for example we had an Update on our website indicating Green card mailed the update was posted 45 days after We received the Green card.

Hi arch & cel.... It's really frustrating to wait especially when you don't know where your papers are. At least your checks are encashed, that is one sure sign that they got your documents unlike our case. USPS was able to deliver it only this week, in the wrong zip code. We mailed it last May 9.

I am thinking if I need to re-send the papers next week since I don't have any clue, checks were not yet encashed.....either we cancel the checks or wait again for another week.

They normally say after 2 weeks you'll get your NOA1. Stay positive and keep trusting for there is reason behind all this waiting.

Have a nice day!

Hopefully things will get around for the two of you, arch and cel & Jenny and Manny..

If you will be sending your package again via USPS make it certified with return receipt so you won't be lost in the waiting game, or w/ signature confirmation if FedEx. Did you ask USPS Jenny & Manny why they enroute or did they not enroute your package?

Or call USCIS toll number. If there is no receipt number yet, they would look into your administrative file number, which is actually your Alien (A) #. And oh, they record the call for security purposes. Good luck! Don't forget to note the agent's name and the ID number.

True for some, in my case I went to the local USPS office and asked if there's any way I can register in their list as a resident etc. or if they have a roster for such in the community, or some homeowner's association list, or whatever possible list imaginable, the supervisor told me they do not have records for the residents and not to worry since in the past years they gave out the green cards to respective owners even housed in apartments and no complains of missing it or undeliverable. I will try to ask again and come up with a different question to another person (english isn't my primary language :P).

But before I went to the USPS, I did buy a mailbox from target, set it up beside the existing mailbox and had my last name and house number inscribed on it! ;)

Now the thing I am concerned of is what if you did everything you could possibly in wait for that green card and you're stuck on FBI namecheck or something more horrid ? It still pays to prepare well and early. So eliminate those thoughts hehe..sorry guys!

Thanks mysticbluerose and StormnRolly.... I called both USCIS toll-free number & USPS in Chicago. USPS staff in Chicago explained to me that their central delivery unit is 60607 and they deliver the papers going to 60680 and to another mail box, it was delivered to the 60607 zip code last May 25. I was really confused that time why they didn't deliver directly they said something about the P.O. Box thing and I was relieved with her explanation. My husband sent our papers via Registered Mail (he said it's secured) so it took sooooo long for them to deliver.

The immigration officer in USCIS also told me that it's too early and assured me that they won't lose the papers since they know what they're doing (i hope so!!!).

I have tried to complete our papers with our complete addresses to USCIS and the returning address....nothing to do but wait and pray that they got our papers....checks not yet cleared...

Have a good day everybody. Thanks for replying to my post. :)
