Both my wife and I have Wisconsion driving licences but are UK based since 2006.

Anyone reckon that these licences are lapsed since neither of us are US resident (but she is Wisconsin domiciled)

Agree with CherryXS..if their not expired (check the date) you're probably fine.. There's probably some sort of residency requirements buried in the state law but what they don't know won't hurt them.

My Texas license was due to expire in 2006, but I renewed it online from this very chair here in the UK but gave them a Dallas address (my parents' address). You're right...what they don't know, etc. :innocent: :innocent: :innocent:

The only thing about the "they dont' have to know" comments is check with your individual states. In St. Louis, Missouri, we have to produce a postmarked piece of mail within the last month that has the address on it we are saying we where we reside. It may be as little as mailing something to yourself at your parent's address or whatever. But still....I would check all the individual state requirements before I tried.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

The renewed driver's license is currently sitting in a safe at my parents' house, waiting for me to collect it. As long as you don't have any violations for the previous 5 years, you do not have to show up in person to renew your Texas driver's license. Plus, I still get mail at my parents' house all the time...mainly from me over here requesting free catalogs to be sent there in my name.

I know the info varies from state to state; this is relevant for Texas. The state doesn't seem to check on whether you're physically present in the state when renewing a license. Texas state institutions have always been rather laid-back in that respect.

Alan's question only appeared to be about licence validity/currency, not renewal.

AFAIK, no state is generally going to take issue with using the licence IT issued until the expiry date (of course, if you happen to have permanently moved to another US state in the interim and not swapped-over, the other state can certainly make a massive fuss about the "document offence" but...) is nigh.

Lucky you.............

They even wanted all this stuff on me for my renewal this time and I've barely moved a few miles since I started driving a long time ago.

It's so weird how driver's license requirements vary from state to state. It's like the USA is actually fifty little countries. :help:

Even though I haven't lived in Texas since 2001 and haven't even visited it since 2005, my congressman Pete Sessions is usually pleased to hear from me. :innocent: (That was a joke.)

Texas is, however, known for rather loose requirements for "residency".

Bush Sr. has been "resident' in Texas for quite awhile, but only has a permanent reservation at a Houston hotel--while his de-facto permanent home is in Maine.

He's a resident of Texas for tax purposes only.
