Congratulations to the those scheduled for interview!!! I filed in my N400 papers  in June 2018 and nothing yet, this whole thing is overwhelming for me. Quick question please, I’m thinking of filing my taxes as married but filing separately because my husband doesn’t let his work take taxes from his paycheck and I’ve been the one paying. 2018 I had to pay 3000$ back, so this year I’ve dicided to file by myself. Do you think this will affect me when I go for my interview or not?

*** This is not legal advice ***

I don't see why that would be a problem since "Married filing separately" is a legal option. The address on both your husband and your return should have the same address. And if not, be prepared to explain why (assuming you are filing based on 3-year marriage).

  • You are allowed by IRS to choose and it is not hard to understand, it is very logical. Even USCIS officers must file their taxes and they want to have pay lowest tax $ for sure :)
  • However, I would recommend you to examine your tax situation carefully to see if you + your husband, in fact, save $ because it may end up as you will pay less but he will pay more or the total will be just same.
