you have to have your interview for your k1 visa at a us embassy in your homecountry! the purpose of a k1 visa is a one time entry to the usa and getting married to the usc.

if you want to fly to the us during your k1 process for VISIT then you have to make sure you have enough binding ties to your homecountry. nevertheless, the officer at the poe can refuse to let you in even though you have enough proof that you will go back and not stay in the us until your visa is issued.

I did visit while my K1 was pending, but it didn't cause any trouble. I didn't mention it either to the officer, only that I was visting my fiance at the time. Never asked anything about if we were filing or not.
