Apply for OPT Extension while having pending I-485

I am having pending I-485 ( waiting for an interview to be schaduled). Also, I just received my EAD/AP card.

At the same time am still working through my OPT which will expires in May, but I have the option to extend it. My school recommend to extend it and continue to work through OPT and leave the EAD I got through pending I-485 aside so to keep my status just incase my pending I-485 denial.

I am very confused what to do as some people say you can apply for extension as they are separate cases, and other says no you can't.

I have called the USCIS and their customer service told me have to follow the adjustment of status case. Even after that i inform my school what the USCIS said they still encourage me to apply for extension.

Please advise and share if anyone have same experiance.

I  can understand their view, using EAD does burn your bridges.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
