Didn't meet income requirements last year but I will this year.

Hi! 

 

So my tax transcripts won't show that I met the income requirements for the affidavit of support last year, but I can provide paystubs and letters from my employers showing that I will make enough this year to sponsor my fiancé. Will this be sufficient? I'm also looking into having a co/joint sponsor, but I'd prefer to do it myself if possible.

The CO will consider you whole financial situation, but providing pay stubs and an employment letter, bank statements is a good method of showing current income.  Even if you meet the minimum requirements, the CO can still ask for a joint sponsor.  So, it might be wise to have one available.

I've also been told we may not need to provide an I-134 at all. So I guess we'll see, but I know we'll definitely have to have the I-864 (I think that's the right one) when he moves here. So I'm just trying to be prepared.

It depends on the consulate as to whether they ask for an I-134.  But you are correct in that you WILL need an I-864 when time to adjust status.

I'm sorta hoping they don't because I'm going to be in a much better place financially in a couple of months (I've just accepted a job for nearly twice the minimum income requirement, so I'm hopeful that will be enough for the I-864) but I also know that it's a possibility. I also know that it's going to be coming up pretty soon, so I want to be as ready as possible.
