Moving - Do I need to update the physical address? Mailing address not changing.

I am moving from NY to New Jersey - my mailing address is not changing since I anticipated this move and used my permanent address in California where my house is as the mailing address on I485 and I130

I am in NY/NJ for the next 6 months or so.

Do I need to report the address change for my 485 and 130? My wife already received travel authorization and EAD. just waiting on interview appointment now. advice is appreciated!

Who is the immigrant? Are you asking about both the I-865 (for a I-864 financial sponsor that is moving) and the AR-11 (for the immigrant)? Just seeking clarification.

My wife and I are both moving. My wife is the immigrant.  and yes I am asking for both - I thought we only needed to do it online so I wasnt aware of the 865 and AR-11

My wife is the immigrant.

She will have to:

Quote
  • Step 1: File Form AR-11 (online OR by mail); AND
  • Step 2: Change your address on any pending or recently approved applications or petitions, online OR by phone at 1-800-375-5283. For TTY (deaf or hard of hearing) call: 1-800-767-1833.

Use our convenient Online Change of Address system to complete steps 1 and 2 at the same time. Once you complete Form AR-11 online - the system will also provide you the opportunity to change your address on any pending or recently approved applications.

If you use our Online Change of Address to complete Form AR-11, you do NOT need to file a paper Form AR-11.

If you have previously submitted a Form I-864 for someone who immigrated to the U.S., you must complete a Form I-865 within thirty days of the completion of your move.

Wow. Thank you so much.

Just to make ale sure I get it right. Looks like my wife will need to file AR-11 and both of us will go through the online address change correct?

my mailing address is still the same. Will I be able to preserve the old mailing? When I looked over the online change tool it seemed like it didn’t specify physical vs mailing but it did have a special field for “mailing addeess”. I plan to fill in the old mailing address there - does it make sense?

Much appreciated.

No you will file a paper I-865 within 30 days of moving.  Your wife will file the AR-11, either online, in paper, or both, within 10 days of moving.

I never understand the American pasttime of having a mailing address completely separate from your physical one, unless it's PO box.  How are you getting all this mail that's being sent to California?

You are able to change the physical address without changing your mailing address.

No just paper.

So? Lol. Again I dont understand why people don't change their mailing address unless their current residence is temporary.
