k1 visa - Case at NVC - request transfer to another embassy

Need help here. While my case is being processed at NVC, I phoned the NVC and requested to have my case transferred from Abu Dhabi to Manila. The NVC representative informed me that they’d have to ask permission at the Embassy where I wish to transfer and that it shouldn’t be an issue. However, I was advised to send my request via email with a reason for request and proof of residency. My question is will the case number change and how long does it take to make the change?

Your USC fiance simply contacts NVC via email and gives them the information below.

Remember that you need to be a legal resident in the country you want to do your medical and interview in.

Address an email from the petitioner to NVCINQUIRY@state.gov

Subject: Beneficiaries Case number / Beneficiaries name / Change of interview location

In the memo area (Where you write the normal email).

1. Beneficiaries case number

2. Beneficiaries full name

3. Beneficiaries date of birth

4. Petitioners Full name

5. Petitioners Date of birth

Thank you for your response. I have contacted the NVC via public inquiry, per NVC Representative's recommendation, to send my request and provided all the info you just mentioned. I have not received any response as of yet. I do have another question if you know the answer to this. When I tried to check the status of my case on https://ceac.state.gov/ceacstattracker/status.aspx, the website does not recognize my case number as a non-immigrant visa. I always thought that K1 petition is non-immigrant as it is a 90-day temporary visa. When I use "Immigrant Visa" under visa application type, it recognizes my case number. Is this something I should be worried about, or should I call NVC for this? Again, thanks for your help.

This is expected behavior. The K-1 is a NIV, but is handled by the IV unit at the embassy/consulate. It's basically treated like an IV from now on, except it uses the DS-160 and I-134 instead of DS-260 and I-864.

The K-1 process is quite strange. For a time, it is both a non-immigrant and immigrant visa type. That is why the links (what you received in the email) will send you the process for immigrant which would be the I-864 and DS-260 even though it truly is a non-immigrant visa requiring I-134 and the DS-160. As you go through the stages, within the NVC system you look up your file under immigrant (ceac.state.gov/). It stays that way until after your interview and the approval and your visa is ready for issue. At that point, it changes over to non -immigrant. It truly is a non-immigrant visa with immigrant intent.

Nothing to be concerned about. It's normal. It's been talked about by many.

What is the waiting time for this? If I will transfer my case to another embassy will it make a difference on my waiting time?

Well, after going through this process, it’s really about your timing of your request. The NVC supervisor has called me last week for the new physical address of my beneficiary. It sounds like my case will be shipped Tuesday or wednesday of this week.

Here’s my timeline:

-NOA2: September 6th

-NVC received: September 27th

-Request of transfer: October 3rd

-NVC acknowledged the request: October 10th

-NVC called for new physical address: October 23

Whenever you alter or make changes, expect to have some delays.

I have not been able to find much on AD but here is what I have https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-AE/niv. You should go to your sub-forum website here http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/97-middle-east-and-north-africa/ and here is a recent thread for some who are processing a K-1 and their recent experience (see below). Also, more info here from your portal http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=United

The holiday season is a month from now. We were hoping i will be there before Christmas. 😞

I hope you’re able to schedule your interview sooner than you expected. The main reason of our transfer was because of the interview availability. I was going to make her complete the process, but ive heard that people were having trouble scheduling, or the soonest availability was 2 months out. I hope it’s not the case anymore. Good luck

So do you think it’s better for us to transfer our case to Manila instead? We are really in dilemma 😞

I don’t know what’s best for your situation. My fiancé’s work visa expired the same month we received the NOA2. She could’ve exited and re-entered with an extended tourist visa (3 months). But she didn’t want to wait that long in Dubai, so we ended up transferring. I can only tell you what’s happening to us so that you have an idea what would happen if you decide to transfer. If you decide to transfer and NVC still has your case, it’s best to do it now. Good luck. Look at my timeline and see if transfer is best for your situation. Good luck.

NOA2: September 6th

NVC received: September 27th

Case number: September 27th

Transfer Request: October 3rd

NVC acknowledged the request: October 10th

NVC called for new physical address: October 23rd

NVC issued new case number: October 27th

NVC sent case to Manila: November 13th

It's hard to give you and answer as you have not taken the time to start a timeline. Click on the "timeline" link in your profile on the left column and follow the instructions.

It will take you 2 months to have your case transferred if it is not already in AD. If you catch it at NVC then you can see about 6 weeks according to @Von1982.
