hey VJ community, I'm having my interview and hopefully my oath on the same day in a couple of weeks and I am planning to apply for my US passport literally right after I get the naturalization certificate! so I was wondering if some of you guys have filled the DS-11 form online before becoming a US citizen?

thanks so much for the feedback 😉

Don't do this, even to save a few days.  It will just get denied and you will have to re-apply and pay all the fees again -- one of the basic requirements is that you submit proof of US citizenship with the application and you will not have it.

A more serious consequence is if someone tags your application as a false claim to US citizenship (which it technically would be) -- that could result in deportation with no legal means to gain US residency ever again.

Yes i have done this. You fill the form online, print it, do not sign it until you get your naturalization certificate, once you have certificate, go to nearest passport center. Having form filled and ready will shorten your time in passport office. You can also take a passport photo with you or take one in passport office.

I did this, and I would recommend doing so. Once you get your oath ceremony date then you can make an appointment at a post office or other acceptance center that allows appointments for that day. I made an appointment but then did a walk in at another location as the oath ceremony was quicker than expected. One thing to remember, make copies of your naturalization certificate, you have to send the original and a copy with your passport application and you probably want a copy just in case. All the best!
