If you made over the poverty line for the past three years, JA will not make you get a joint sponsor.  If you just made it this current tax year (2017), and not in 2016, 2015 they will make you get a sponsor.

What if you made it this year but not 2015/6 and have assets?

You are responding to a Jamaica specific answer.  In reality, each case is judged based on the totality of circumstances, including how MUCH over the income requirement you are and in what kind of job.  For an employed person, current income, does not come from a tax return.  If your current income is good, and so was 2017, pretty much any Consulate except Mumbai will accept that without a joint sponsor.
