Hello everyone,

I applied for a i-132 Re-entry permit last month as i am planning to stay in India for 1 year. My i-131 form was recieved on July 13th and $660 were taken out from my account as well. My question is:

1. When can i expect the Biometrics appointment to be mailed? I was expecting within 2 weeks but no update is done on my case online neither i received any mail letter yet.

2. Affer my biometrics am i allowed to go to India or do i need to wait for my re-entry permit to get approved by USCIS?

3. I stayed in India for 5 months from Feb-June 2018, if my Re-entry gets declined will i be able to go back to India and stay another 5 months or do i need to stay in the US for 6 months before making any long trip outside the US.

Any other details regarding my situation will be highly appreciated.

Thank you!

It's an I-131

Biometrics is usually 3-4 weeks after application, approval about 3 months.

You can leave after biometrics.  You can stay out for up to a year without a re-entry permit as long as you maintain your US ties and residence.  We left for 11 months, returned, left for 5 months, and returned again with no issues a few years ago.

The application gives you a choice to have the travel document mailed to an embassy or consulate abroad.  Is that what you selected?

Yes i-131, sorry it was a typo... Thanks for clarification and your response! I selected my home address in the US as i was not sure while filling the form about when i will be leaving the US but now i can't wait for more than 1 month. What i was thinking is, when they send me the permit at my local US address my family member will fedex it to my address in India or will wait until someone from my family or friends travel to India in the coming months, do you think it's a good idea?

Hi, we had our i-131 reentry permit sent to the consulate in Dubai, however it still haven't arrived 2 months later. It was sent to Washington DC on July 6 but nothing after. I'm trying to contact L2 support at USCIS for an update.

I called USCIS and they told me to call the Dept of State at 202-647-4000 to see what the issue is. Let's try next week and see what they say...

Yes very strange.  We had to re-apply for a travel document back in 2014 because it was "delivered" but we never received it.  Combination of Ombudsman and congressman's office helped us get one in 2 weeks, even though we had to pay for it twice.

IF USCIS mailed the document to DOS then DOS has to track it down.  Unfortunately I think that in our case our "delivered" document was never mailed.  bleh

Good luck!
