Newsflash: Stay the course ain't working
Hard to stay a course when we don't know what that course actually is, or even what race we're running in....

True. The strategery is rather along the lines: More of the same...

Meanwhile trying to pretend that "not knowing what to do" amounts to a plan. Ironic considering that Bush said his strategy is "reactive to the changing conditions on the ground". Publicly at least all he seems to have done is dithered for months before finally caving in and sending in more troops.

It’s the Monty Python Olympics for retarded people. Stay the course...

Why do they always say tuck tail and run or cut and run like its some sort of cowardly act. What bizarre caveman mentality is that anyhow?

Ohhhhhh the terrorists are laughing at us. Well yeah.. it is a bit of a joke. Most powerful nation on earth, trillions in debt and getting are asses whacked every day. Id be laughing too if it weren’t so sad.

It wouldn't be so bad if everything wasn't wrapped up in puerile soundbites.

"Stay the course"

"Fight them over there so we don't have to face them over here"

"Cut and Run"

People could at least be honest with themselves and use their own words, rather than accepting these party political talking points verbatim. Its a convenient package - cheap soundbites & pre-packaged meaning. Why have your own ideas when you can borrow someone else's.

This one I love. Its got to be the most shocking piece of bullshitting in history. The UK is already facing the consequences of the involvement in the war and the middle east by facing terrorists that are not only "over here" but home grown! Its only a matter of time before a the US is hit by a terrorist strike planned and executed by US citizen muslims, fighting in Iraq will do nothing but encourage it.

Agreed - the real irony is that the people who are so fixated on Iraq as some sort of "Liberation experiment" don't seem to understand the implications of unilateral military action outside of the Middle East. There have already been reports that the Iraq war has been spectacularly counter-productive so far as "preventing terrorism & violent extremism" is concerned.

There is a large muslim community in the US, a community which has become increasingly marginalised following 9/11. I suspect its only a matter of time before we start seeing home-grown terrorism - in reaction to the perceived "war on Islam".

Tell me again how this "cut and run" mind-set of the liberals isn't emboldening the terrorists?

I don't suppose it has occurred to you that had the Bush administration not lied its way into war with Iraq most if not all of those 3,000+ soldiers would be alive today, we wouldn't have the image problem we have now, al Qaeda wouldn't have a second country to call its own, we'd have more manpower to devote to the war in Afghanistan, we would be fighting al Qaeda on only one front instead of two, and most cheerfully for you...the Democrats probably would not be in charge of Congress because there would not have been an Iraq war to create such a groundswell of anti-Republican sentiment.

But yeah, go ahead and just blame the "liberals"; everything is their fault.

If Bush had focused on getting Osama and his gang in Afganistan without rushing into fool's errand that was Iraq, this joker Zawahiri would have been pushing daisies instead of laughing at us.

In any event, thanks to Bush, the US is in a conndrum. If we pull out, we leave the region to Iran with Iraq in chaos (in worse shape than what it was before we went in).

But the people of US are tired of this war with only the death toll mounting and no progress in sight and so thay want out The military is stretched thin, the the deficit is reaching the stratosphere. The democrats know the catastrophe that awaits our withdrawal so they take token action to appease the electorate.

Do you wonder to whom we owe this unimaginably tragic "catch 22" ?

Come on, think it through.

Are you saying you take his opinion that the U.S. should stay the course as an endorsement of Republican policy? Made in Washington, al-Qaeda approved? If Zawahiri said "I endorse Congress' plan", you'd take that as evidence that the U.S. was doing the right thing?

This guy has a base to appeal to like any other political leader. Bin Laden used to do the same thing: promise the American electorate that he wouldn't attack if they didn't vote for Bush, that sort of thing. Shouldn't have influenced your opinion then, shouldn't now. Terrorists don't get a vote.

I don't take his "opinion" as anything. I am pointing out that this terrorist is laughing at us because of the cowardly way our new congress is acting. They knew that if the liberals were elected this would happen. Now they know that all they have to do is keep up the pressure and we will leave with our tails between our legs. If the congress doesn't like the way the war is going I can accept that. They should propose a different stradegy then, but they are surrendering and Zawahiri sees that. This shows that setting a deadline lets the terrorists win.

with logic like some here...we still be in Viet Nam......... the war was a failure on all levels...from intelligence to leadership...stated by gop and dems alike...the Iraqis life and standard of living is horrible...

the iraqi people and the american troops/their families are the biggest losers...sadly, it was the same in Viet Nam

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

That's his problem right there - he seems to think that people will ignore the evidence of their eyes and listen to his rhetoric instead.
