Hi folks,

Just planning ahead and trying to get all documents I need prior to waiting for my NOA2. Went to GP today and got medical summary.

As as you can appreciate how sensitive this is to me, it says I was a victim of child abuse (which happened when I was 13). As traumatic as it was I moved on with my life, never had any mental health issues nor have took any anti-depressants. I am and have always been plenty stable.

I expect to maybe be asked about it seeing as it is on my medical history summary as a child but I was wandering do I need a letter from my Gp to say I’ve never had any mental or medical issues arising from this? As it summaries I was unfortunately a victim.

I appreciate the time time it took for you to read this and it is s highly sensitive subject.  I’d appreciate any advice.

Thanks

How old are you now? It might make a difference if it was noted on your record 5 years ago or 25 years ago. It think it wouldn't hurt to get a short statement from your GP that he has never known you to have any  mental health issues due to the child abuse you experienced and he has never prescribed treatment or medication due to mental health issues.

Thanks for the reply. Currently I am 28, so this all took place about 16 years ago.

I was honestly a little shocked to see it recorded at all. The only other items on the summary are from having inner-ear drainage tubes placed and tonsils removed when I was 4!

The good thing is, it shows you have a long history with this practice so if you had suffered depression or anxiety, it surely would have been observed.  Maybe put in writing what you need so the doctor has a reference to read directly from you instead of you telling a receptionist who tells the doctor and gets it all mixed up.

Explain you are immigrating to the US and will have a medical exam in London before clearance to get a visa. Part of the process is to determine the status of your mental health. You will turn in your medical summary to the clinic. You are concerned that the sexual abuse comment might make them question how it affected your mental health. You would like a short statement saying......what I said above. Thank him profusely and sign your name.  Then perhaps you could just turn in that request and the doctor will get to it when he can.

Hello,

Sorry to hear of your past. This wouldn't be issue unless it it triggered medical issues, all of which would be on your summary if so. In which case if it's mental health issues you'd need to show provide detail of that and so on.

The important thing I've taken from everyone's experiences that have been shared is: Do not worry, the doctors you see there are not evil nightmares. If they prefer to have additional information on your case they will simply tell you so.

I would encourage anyone with queries like this to contact Knightsbridge directly to ease their minds. Their e-mail response time is good.

All the best!
