Hello, I’m confused about names on green card. My last name changed when got married my husband (USA citizen), but how to change my son’s last name??

Can I just put my husband’s last name on green card and SSN applications?

We will have to submit our birth certificate that’s from our country, but it shows my maiden name and my son’s last name is my maiden name. Is Birth certificate just to prove our nationality and birthday, but our name?? If we don’t need anything to prove my son’s name changed, I could write my husband’s last name.

Entered USA with my son, 12 yo, as K1 & K2 , and get married last month. My last name changed and it’s on Marriage certificate.

Thank you in advance,

Minori

His name does not change until you petition the court to change it or he decides to naturalize.  You cannot put your husbands last name on any of his documents until he has LEGALLY changed his name

YMMV

Thank you for your comment!

Well if his name changed in our country, family registration (it’s our birth certificate ), would be ok if I write husband’s name as my son’s last name on application? Then need the new certificate to prove his name changed, right? Or passport if husbands name added?

If you can show documents that legally changed his name

YMMV
