Hi All,

I am US citizen and my wife is in overseas. I have mailed the supporting documents to NVC and also filed out the DS260 online at the NVC site. Now when they get the supporting documents, its some wait.

I would like to know - that during her visa interview at the US consulate at Mumbai, the documents she needs is listed out here >>

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/interview/interview-prepare/required-documents.html

(Question 1) Now it says to make photocopies of each original documents - do I make "certified" copies of the original document OR just plain photocopy for each original document...is enough?

(question 2) - does my wife need any other documents than whats listed in the link?

thanks

Photocopies means photocopies.  PERIOD.  It is not possible for YOU to MAKE "certified copies" of anything.

Unfortunately, different countries mean very different things by the words " certified copy"   For the USCIS and DOS, certified copy means that the document must be obtained directly from the issue government agency. In Australia , for example, certified copy means I take the original document, photocopy it, then take both the original and photocopy to a person who is authorized to certify that "this is a true copy of the original which has been sighted by me". This certified copy will then be accepted in Australia just as if it was an original. I am not surprised at the confusion many experience with the way words such as certified, copy etc are used in the immigration forms.

Nevertheless the OP cannot MAKE a "certified copy" even in Australia.  Certified copies are OBTAINED, not "made" by petitioners or visa applicants.

by certified I meant notarized copies

With the exception of China where all "Certified Copies" are actually "Notarial Translations" from the Gong Zheng Chu (Government Notary Office), NOTHING is notarized in the US immigration process.

In the US, a "Notary" witnesses signatures.  What would a "Notary" do with a photocopy?  Really?

The term "certified copy" refers to a copy of an original document that is in the hands of and property of a government agency.  That agency certifies copies of that original document.
