Hey Guys!

So we're really early on in our K1 process, however after checking through our form again I noticed a typo on one of our answers!

The typo was on the 'Describe the circumstances of in-person meeting' question, and concerned one of the dates being 2017 when it should have been 2016 for when we first met. A truly innocent typo. We had quite a few 2017 dates of when we met listed on that question and I'm now really worried about the adjudicator getting confused and just outright rejecting our petition. We did also include supplementary individual accounts of how we met/our in-person meetings over the last 2 years (alongside our evidence), which did include the correct and proper dates. However, considering how drawn out this process is these days, the fear of one typo confusing USCIS is really worrying.

A few questions if anyone can help with:

  1. How likely would a typo like that discussed above result in an outright rejection? If not, a RFE?
  2. I've read some people suggest sending them a letter for amendment. However, many others have said that the letter never even gets added/amended with the petition. Is this true?
    1. If we do need to send a letter? Where to? USCIS California?
  3. Would the supplementary evidence (correct dates) be enough for them to see it was just a typo?
    1. If so, would this cause any problems at interview if they asked "when did you first meet" - seen as the non-typo/correct answer would be 2016, but the typo on the form listed 2017.

Sorry if the above is rambling, as I know you all appreciate this process is so stressful!

Any help from you guys would be so appreciated!

Cheers!

Frankly it is unlikely they will notice and even if they do you will not get rejected, you will just get an RFE.  I think I had a minor omission on my 129-F and it was approved within 3 weeks of them receiving it without any RFE (sidenote: don't expect an approval this quickly now, things have slowed considerably).  If you get an RFE about it, fix it, otherwise I wouldn't worry about it at this point, but...

I would confess of the typo to the embassy.  The truth shall let you free.  Your fiance can include a note with the package she will send to the embassy.  Make it short and to the point, no long stories, one sentence is enough.  Just indicate what form and what page of that form has the typo.  They are reasonable people, they understand typos can happen.  Just be forthcoming with it.  I would also ask her to remind them of this when she goes to the embassy for the interview.
