If you do have someone who is partially dependent on you, is there a pro-ration in the poverty guide lines? You know, yes we are a family of 2.5 (.5 being the employed grown son who still is not making a good wage)?

They are either dependent or they are not. If you file your tax return with your son as a dependent, then you will have to count him for the support form.

You would think it is that simple. I won't count him on my taxes so I will say he is not a dependent, however the reason I ask is because on the form they have the question is someone wholey or Partially dependent upon you. SOmeone can be partially dependent on you and then you dont count them on the taxes. It also says that the children you have in a divorced who arent in your care are still to be counted as a dependent. So, in this case it doesnt matter if they are counted on taxes or not. In our case my SO has a son he pays child support for, so that child will be counted in our family (from my reading) since there is a child support obligation. I would not have thought this before reading that information page.
