Difference btw immigrant and non immigrant

Hoping to be guided in the right direction i submitted the DS-160 on behalf of my fiancè, Embassy is in Santo Domingo, its a k-1 visa and i submitted it as a non immigrant visa was this correct? And if not what can i do to fix it? I was informed that i can re-submit as an immigrant visa as long as i havent pay the visa fee....not sure if this information is correct....what is the difference btw immigrant and non-immigrant??? Thank you in advance

K-1 is non-immigrant and uses the DS-160. It’s handled by the immigrant visa unit at the embassy since it’s similar to family based immigrant visas, but remains non-immigrant.

 

An immigrant visa grants permanent residency upon entry. A K-1 holder must complete AOS to earn permanent residency status.

So i did it correct?  One of the ladies in my FB group did her fiancè’s DS-160 as an immigrant visa she has even paid the visa fee and set up the interview appt as well...will she have a problem since its a K-1 submitted as an immigrant visa?

DS-160 is the non immigrant application..  Immigrant visa is DS 260

There’s no way to complete a DS-160 for an immigrant visa. It’s the non-immigrant visa application.

 

Some embassies let you schedule the interview online, which may list K-1 under the immigrant visa section (again, since it’s handled by the immigrant visa unit).
