Hi All,

My wife's EAD card is set to expire on 3/9/2018...We are ready to apply for her extension as our i-485 cases is taking longer than expected.

I've read we do not need to pay the fee again for the extension? but can someone please confirm?

Also, how doe the automatic renewal of 180 days happen if we don't receive the new card for several months---do we just tell the employer she is automatically renewed? but without any proof?

Thanks for your help.

This is what I found on the WEB, but its from 2007:....Not sure if it still applies?

EAD/AP Fees for Pre-Jul/Aug 2007 Renewals

Many MurthyDotCom readers are eligible to file the EAD and AP initial and renewal forms without separate filing fees. This is a bit confusing, as it depends upon the filing fee that was paid with the I-485 filing. All applicants who filed the I-485 after August 17, 2007 paid a one-time filing fee and do not have to pay additional USCIS fees for EAD and AP filings.

There is no filing fee for an EAD (initial or renewal) due to a pending AOS application. This is covered in the I-485 instructions (and I would assume I-765 instructions as well).

The 180 day renewal is automatic for a timely filed EAD application. Unfortunately, I’m not sure as to how to prove this to an employer other than to print out the page (or if the receipt notice states this?).

Thanks Geo, I did see it in the instructions for i-765 the more I researched it, but it wasn't easy to find a clear answer.

For the renewal---I'm going to send in the 1-765 form and a copy of the current EAD card and the original authorization letter I received for the first card in the packet.

Do I need to send in anything else for the renewal?

The form instructions are slightly confusing to decipher what initial and renewal requirements are...like proof of existing i-485 application, not sure If i need that for the renewal packet?

Can i file the i-765 renewal and i-131 renewal together? I read somewhere you have to send them in separately?

I would include a copy of the I-485’s NOA1 (receipt notice) as well for good measure. I’m unsure for a renewal, but an initial I-765 filed after the I-485 requires this instead of payment.

Unsure on the other point off-hand (sorry, I’m in Hawaii on vacation and can’t easily lookup to confirm it).

I submitted my renewal application early in january and received the notice that it’s pending.

What you need:

- the application form

-2 passport photos

-a copy of your NOA for the i485 ( the letter you received after sending your application saying that it is pending)

- a copy front and back of your current ead

- a copy of your I94 (optional)
