I applied and was granted an EAD 2 years ago and now have to renew, the problem is at the time of my original application I sent my original marriage certificate and they never sent it back to me..

I am unsure if they will still have this but surely they should not need to ask for this again if it is on file already? but if they do, I don't have it to give..

Does anybody know? thanks for any help

Copies. You should submit legible photocopies of documents requested, unless the Instructions specifically state that you must submit an original document. USCIS may request an original document at the time of filing or at any time during processing of an application, petition, or request. If USCIS requests an original document from you, it will be returned to you after USCIS determines it no longer needs your original.

NOTE: If you submit original documents when not required or requested by USCIS, your original documents may be immediately destroyed upon receipt.

YMMV

Yeah, they definitely requested original marriage certificate and I never got it back. My friend who did it at the same time said she was told to provide an SAE with it and they sent it back, but I never got told that.

Water under the bridge but a copy of the marriage certificate is all that is ever required

YMMV
