So I did the "unthinkable" last week, I finally couldn't take it anymore and I quit my (new, 3 months) job. It was making me miserable in so, so many ways. A friend convinced me to do it, he went from "leave next week" to "if you're going to leave next week you should just do it now". He was tired of hearing how miserable I was there. Great life coaching! I was on the phone in my office and he somehow managed to get me to clean my desk and leave for lunch, never to come back. I submitted a formal resignation letter (via fedex) and buh-bye!!

It's unthinkable because a) I have never quit without something lined up and B) I did this without any financial cushion. Shoot howdy! All the money we spent moving to/from canada, well I was in no place to do this.

but then.... ahhhhhhhhhh! A wonderful door opened somehow I magically got an interview the next day after quitting and got an offer today!! Which I happily accepted!!

YEEEE HAWWWWWWWW!! If you are at a job somewhere and you are miserable, and you need me to kick you in the butt and send you on your way, I will do that!! My friend did it for me, and today I accepted an offer in a new wonderful better place.

No more :diablo: Mr. passive-aggressive micro-managing borderline sociopath lying manipulative pushy boss. TA TA!! Have a nice life!

Maybe all this immigration stuff makes you too strong! hee hee.

That took courage.

Good job. Everything happens for a reason.

I did that one time, I never did that before either I was working my butt off in the desert of New Mexico and the supervisor was a #######. He yelled at me for something and then i went back to work for a few minutes, I was thinking, Screw this I am out of here.. I collected my tools and went to him while he was in his golf cart and I told him to stick it where the sun dont shine and I am out of here..

It felt good :D

Congrats

OOOH!! saying "stick it" kicks the scenario up a notch!!! tee hee.

My letter that stated, "accept this as my formal resignation.... as of.... now"

I found out they've never had anyone in my position longer than 6 months (and been in business for 30 years, do the math!!), so I don't think they were surprised, although, they sure played like they were!!

my motto is " I was looking for a job when i got this one"

Ive told a few employers ( i refuse to have a boss)" look you hired me for a reason and I assume that reason was my experience .........now leave me be and let me use it" . they rarely know what to do with that :D

Hope it all works out for the best.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Do we work for the same guy? Everyone, and I mean everyone wants to quit where I work. We think it should be the best place to work(a cable sports station) and everyone who doesn't work there think it's cool, but sometimes... :bonk:

I keep thinking of waiting at least until my wife gets her green card b/c I have four weeks of vacation, which is hard to walk away from, and that will allow me to take off for her interview/bio.

wow that is tough, I kept asking myself if I could hold out too but your case is diff knowing you want to use that time for when your wife comes...... that would be tough.

This guy was the most messed in the head  person I ever worked for. He inherited the company, and didn't want to run it. He enjoyed causing chaos and I was supposed to be his assistant! He kept saying I needed to "watch his back", but I couldn't because I had no respect and it was making me sick inside when I would hear him lying to all the employees..... then having me cover the tracks. Pulled me under the bus twice in 3 mos. to save his butt too. Life is too short man!!

Didn't sound like a fun place to be.

My wife's here, but the day or two for those appointments might be harder to get for a few employer. Plus, there's the whole employment letter, etc.
