Hi all,

I have a concern about USCIS thinking I may have changed my address and get me penalized for this.

I'm planning on renting an apartment as studio/library/storage, most likely temporary for a few months to organize some aspects of my life. I drive 30-40 minutes from home to the office and I'm usually at the office most of the day, so I'm choosing a place that is very close to the office. And yes, you're right if you're thinking my wife won't want all that stuff around in the house, they're currently in a couple of rented storage places, also close to the office. She's still willing to keep me at home though. I'm not planning to use this apartment for any other activities beside the aforementioned. I won't add any furniture to sleep overnight. And of course, no visits or parties of any kind or receiving any post mail.  I'll keep sleeping in my bed, at home.

I have been married to my wife for 7 years (she was my fiance sponsor) and we have been living continuously together in the same home. My green card (already removed conditions) says I'm Resident since 6.5 years ago. So I will also apply (really soon now, as they say) for Citizenship.

I think I can handle it if my wife doesn't like with this apartment setup. But I'm not sure about USCIS.

USCIS requires to be notified of address changes within 10 days, but this would be a temporary address. And their website says:

You do not need to include temporary addresses as long as you maintain your present address as your permanent residence and continue to receive mail there.

My concerns may sound as unjustified fearful maybe out from my ignorance, but when there are no clear guidelines, there is too much room for personal or automated systems interpretation.

Have anyone had any issue or positive experience with "multiple concurrent addresses" complain from USCIS? Or any related issue because of having green card thru marriage?

Any comments are very appreciated.

Thanks!

You're not living there.  Its not your home.  It's like a man cave away from home.  Which is your wife is fine with... is fine and really doesnt even need mentioning.  You wouldn't mention a normal storage unit...

I am confused :

"most likely temporary for a few months to organize some aspects of my life. I drive 30-40 minutes from home to the office and I'm usually at the office most of the day, so I'm choosing a place that is very close to the office."

what is the purpose of this place ?

will it shorten your commute ? if so how , if you don't plan to sleep over -

are you going to store equipment that you would otherwise have to put in your car and drive around with for 30 mins each way ?

will your wife be on the lease as well ?

obviously I do not know you

but to me it sounds more like a place close to work where you can do things you cannot do at home -

and what are those things ? an affair ? again - do not take it personally, I am not judging - just showing you this is one way to see how it looks from the outside ....

You nailed it, from Wikipedia: "guys can do as they please", without fear of upsetting any female sensibility about house decor or design
