Hello

we applied for I-130  just after our marriage so i didnt have time to change my name. I fugured that it would be better to have my husbands name also for the interview and less papering with changing after.

Our lawyer said that we can change the name before it gets to the NVC. Which i am not sure if it gets done. And if not, we would have to start all the process again with different name?

is anyone here who did the same thing with changing name during 1-130 process? Or someone who changed the name after it while having the gc? A lot of papering?

thanks everyone for their imput.$

No, you wouldn't have to start over. Your marriage certificate is proof of the name change. I changed my name during the NVC stage and everything I had sent in so far was in my maiden name but I had a new passport with my married name for the interview and it wasn't an issue.

Change it now if you can, if you change it after the GC is issued you will have to pay a fee for a new GC with your new name.
