Hi everyone, 

Since the fee of applying for visa and passport always change, so I think this topic will be updated regularly.

As of October 2017,

 

For Vietnam Visa

I. Total visa fee (no other fee will be required upon arrival):  

A. 01 month, single entry: $80 per person

B. 01 month, multiple entries: $135 per person

C. 03 months, single entry: $110 per person

D. 03 months, multiple entries: $160 per person

E. 6 months, multiple entries (available for US passport holders only): $170 per person

E. 1 year multiple entry visa (available US passport holders only): $190 per person

The visa is valid from the proposed date of entry on the application form.

 

II. Processing time:

A. Normal processing time: 2-3 working days after receiving complete application (10-15 working days for some non-US nationalities).

B. Expedited processing fee and time: $30 per visa; 24 hours after receiving complete application (May not be available for some nationalities). 

 

 III. What to submit:

A.  Copy of the information page of the passport with at least 01 month validity after the date of exit from Vietnam (Airlines may require longer validity).

            * For visa stamped in the passport, please send the actual passport.

B. Application form: 01 for each passport holders and to be filled online and downloaded at http://vietnamembassy-usa.org/consular/visa-application-process (no need to wait for the confirmation code) or PDF form downloaded from http://vietnamembassy-usa.org/sites/default/files/visaform.pdf

C. 02 Passport size (2x2) color photos of the applicant 

D. Fee, in form Money order, Cashier’s check, Certified Check or Company’s check, payable to “Embassy of Vietnam”. Applicants applying together may submit in one combined money order/check.

            * If submitted directly at the Embassy (walk in, no appointment needed), the fee can be paid with Visa or MasterCard. One person can submit the applications for the whole group.

            * Loose leaf visa is as good as the visa stamped in the passport and available for all applicants.

E. A self-addressed prepaid return envelope for the Embassy to send back visas once issued. For safety of your documents, please use mailing services that provide Tracking numbers such as USPS, FedEx, UPS (no DHL).  No envelope is required if you plan to submit application and collect visa at the Embassy in Washington DC. All applicants applying together can send in one package.

F. For non-American passport holders please submit Copy of Green Card or Resident Card (if possessed), copy of Flight ticket (Reservation or Itinerary) and copy of Hotel booking .

 

 

For Vietnam Passport

I. Fee: $170 

II. What to submit:

A. Passport application. (can be found at http://vietnamembassy-usa.org/vi/basic-page/cap-doi-ho-chieu-cho-cong-dan-viet-nam-dinh-cu-o-hoa-ky)

B. Original Vietnam Passport.

C. Photo (or Copy) of valid Green card or U.S. passport.

D. 02 Passport size (2x2) color photos of the applicant.

E. A self-addressed prepaid return envelope for the Embassy to send back visas once issued. For safety of your documents, please use mailing services that provide Tracking numbers such as USPS, FedEx, UPS (no DHL).  No envelope is required if you plan to submit application and collect visa at the Embassy in Washington DC. All applicants applying together can send in one package.

F. Fee, in form Money order, Cashier’s check, Certified Check or Company’s check, payable to “Embassy of Vietnam”. Applicants applying together may submit in one combined money order/check.

Total processing time from last successful submission to Oath Ceremony: 253 days (8 months and 11 days)

02/26/2012: Arrived SF airport. 

11/28/2016: Eligible for early-filling.

Day 00 - 12/23/2016: Sent N-400 + I-942 to Phoenix, AZ lockbox via USPS.

Day 03 - 12/26/2016: N-400 application marked delivered.

Day 25 - 01/17/2017: Sent email to support regards to application.

Day 26 - 01/18/2017: N-400 rejected because incorrect payment amount.

Day 32 - 01/24/2017: N-400 + I-942 resent.

Day 34 - 01/26/2017: N-400 application marked delivered.

Day 49 - 02/10/2017: N-400 rejected again because incorrect payment amount.

Day 52 - 02/13/2017: Email form USCIS support responded package was rejected in error (!?) for the first and second time submissions, they requested 3rd resubmission + tracking number in order to apply my earliest priority date. 

Day 52 - 02/13/2017: N-400 + I-942 resent on the same day, also sent a response to Lockbox to provide information to USCIS.

Day 54 (Day 0) - 02/15/2017: N-400 application marked delivered.

Day 62 (Day 8) - 02/23/2017: E-notification, E-mail from USCIS, E-mail from Support announced Resubmission was accepted.

Day 66 (Day 12)- 02/27/2017: Notice of Acceptance as Fees Waiver Approval received. (All fees were waived instead of reduced by half as supposed by filing form I-942)

Day 69 (Day 15) - 03/02/2017: Online Status Update: Fingerprint Appointment was scheduled. 

Day 70  (Day 16) - 03/03/2017: Fingerprint Appointment Letter received. Biometric will be on 3/15/17. 

Day 70  (Day 16) - 03/03/2017: Early Walked-In for Biometric at 3:45 PM.

Day 87 (Day 33) - 03/20/2017: Online Status Update: Case was placed in line for interview. 

Day 234 (Day 180) - 08/14/2017: Online Status Update: Interview has been scheduled.

Day 239 (Day 185) - 08/19/2017: Interview Letter received.

Day 269 (Day 215) - 09/18/2017: Interview 2:30 PM at USCIS SF Field Office. Recommended For Approval. 

Day 280 (Day 226) - 09/29/2017: Oath Ceremony Letter received. N400 is approved.

Day 291 (Day 237) - 10/10/2017: Last Online Status Update: Oath Letter was mailed. Too late!

Day 307 (Day 253) - 10/26/2017: Oath Ceremony in Oakland, CA. Citizenship granted.

Day 307 (Day 253) - 10/26/2017: Passport applied.

Day 321 (Day 267) - 11/09/2017: Passport Booklet received. 

Day 321 (Day 267) - 11/09/2017: Naturalization Certificate received. Journey done.

Most people do not even go the embassy route for their visas. Visa-on-Arrival and the new e-Visa are much better options for your casual tourist. The new e-Visa process is really nice if it fits with your travel plans.

09/24/2016 - I-129F Packet Submitted, 09/26/2016 - NOA1, 10/27/2016 - RFE Received

11/02/2016 - RFE Reply sent

11/09/2016 - NOA2

11/21/2016 - NVC Receives packet

12/12/2016 - Case left NVC for BKK Consulate

01/10/2017 - After travelling via the slowest route possible (likely via carrier pigeon) BKK Consulate receives packet

01/16/2017 - Packet 3 Instructions received 02/28/2017 - Packet 3 Instructions Completed

03/05/2017 - Packet 4 received (now the fun begins) --> 03/29/2017 - Interview disappears from the schedule on the embassy website -->03/30/2017 - She goes to her interview, is told they need to verify her documents since she is Vietnamese interviewing in Thailand, receives a 221G with 'Verification of Viet documents' as the reason. Gave back her passport.-->03/31/2017-04/04/2017 - Case is being continuously touched. We suspect that our case was approved at this point but they didn't have her passport. --> 04/10/2017 (10 days after interview) - Email emabssy to inquire about updates and if there was anything we could do to move things forward. (3h later) - She is told that she is approved and to expect her passport soon (how when they don't have it in their posession?) After clarification, instructed to send our passport to them. Ship out passport in a rush to beat Songkran (which failed) --> 04/11/2017 - Passport at embassy according to Thai Post Office --> 04/17/2017 - Emailed to confirm they received the passport. They issued an evasive answer about Songkran backlog (they love evasive non-committal answers)--> 04/24/2017  Evening - Case changes from Immigrant Visa to Non-Immigrant Visa and a new case created date is given --? 04/25/2017 morning  (less than 12h later) - Case flies through Ready -->Admin Processing --> Issued

04/26/2017 - Checks mail, passport is there. No mention of it being mailed out. 

05/02/2017 - Arrives in the USA, without Issue

06/17/2017 - Marriage!

7/01/17- Mailed AOS packet to Chicago

7/03/17- Packet received

07/07/17 - SMS and Email notification of NOA1 for AoS, EAD, and AP

07/13/17 - Received paper copies of NOA1 for AoS, EAD, and AP

07/21/17 - Received Biometrics Appointment Letter

08/02/17 - Biometrics Appointment Completed 

11/04/17 - EAD Approved - New Card Is Ready For Production

11/09/17 - AP Approved, EAD - Card Produced Awaiting Mailing, EAD - Card Has Been Mailed.

11/13/17 - EAD/AP Combo Card Received. 

11/05/2018 - Received SMS Notification that Interview Has Been Scheduled

11/10/2018 - Received Paper Interview Notice

12/11/2018 - Interview Date
