Address Change Worries

I'm currently on a 2 year conditional green card and moved house back in March. I followed the correct procedure of notifying USCIS of the new address for myself and my sponsor (my husband) within 10 days, as per the guidelines.

 

This past week I received correspondence to remind me that I'm entering the 90 day period where I can apply to remove the conditions on my green card. However I noticed that the address does not include my apartment number - I've checked back on the documents I submitted to change my address and can confirm that this wasn't omitted from my side.

 

I called this morning and it seems there is nothing USCIS officers can do to update the apartment number on the system and the only thing they could do for me was update the address on my already accepted I-485 from 2 years ago.

 

So it's left me in a position of concern as there are 8 apartments at my address and it's only by chance that I received the last letter. What other measures can I take to ensure USCIS documents arrive to my correct address? Will USCIS update my records with the apartment number when I submit my paperwork to remove conditions?

 

Help ease my stressed and troubled mind

You should definitely put your name on the mailbox if you haven't already.

It's already on.  I believe that's the only way the piece of mail correctly reached me

Good, you'll most likely receive your mail then.

 

Yes you file all the ROC paperwork with the correct address and hopefully they add the extra number of your address in the system. You can also try to make an address change online if they refuse to help you over the phone.

Regardless of whether you didn't or last time, file another AR-11 online and include the apartment number.

Thanks, will give the online address change another try now.  I've checked the AR-11 I filed and it definitely has the apartment number on, so not sure what has happened.

 

I just needed some peace of mind.  All my paperwork is in order to send so it's just this one little blip that has me worried.

If you haven't already get USPS informed delivery, it's free, easy to join and it will let you know daily what mail/post you should be receiving. 

 

I don't understand why they couldnt update your address. For my 1485 they had the wrong address on their system and they changed it for me, I recently changed address after submitting ROC and I had to file AR11, another form my husband saying he had moved and a phone call to a tier 2 who also changed my address. Not sure if you spoke to a Tier 2 officer, but I think they are the only ones that can manually change an error.  Wouldn't harm to fill in the AR11 online, it wouldn't allow me to do that, but you might be luckier than I was with it.

You should be able to file another AR-11/I-865 with the apartment number. Then, of course, make sure that you fill out the address correctly when you file your I-751. It should be fine.
