Hello all,

I have some quick questions, right now my ROC is still pending and I am planning to wait for my GC to arrive before I file my N400, my first question is; Is it ok to file my N400 next year around March 2018? My 90 days will start this coming Oct 3, 2017. I am confused if I should follow the within in 90 days of my 3 years or I can file anytime? How long is the waiting for N400? Thanks!!!

To estimate the wait for your particular field office, you can also check data from VJ timelines by going here http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/citlist.php?cfl=&op5=5,10,11 and selecting your field office from the drop-down menu on the bottom right.

You can apply for the N-400 any day beginning your eligibility date (3 years from the date you became a perm resident, i.e. date on your green card - 90 days onwards). You can choose to apply any time thereafter or choose to never apply for naturalization. There is no requirement to become a U.S. citizen.

As for how long it takes, it's currently taking anywhere between 5 months to a year, sometimes even more. However the time estimate really depends on your local USCIS field office. Some are much faster than others. To get an estimate, look at the monthly N-400 threads and look for other members from your USCIS field office.

Thank you.
