Hi,

I am US citizen and my fiance is Indian. I am living in US for the past 1.5 years and he lives in India. I checked online that DCF is easier and quicker way to get GC. I want to live with my fiance/spouse in US after getting married in India. I heard that I have to reside in India for at least 6 months prior to filing DCF. I can be there and work in India for 6 months and then we both get married there and file for DCF. Will that work?

Could someone please tell me the exact requirements for filing DCF?

Thanks,

Priya

You should call or email de consulate and ask them. It is not simply "living" somewhere for 6 months as a way to this is quickly. It is more like being a resident of the country. But it can vary from consulate to consulate, some have harder rules than others.

Hi,

Thanks for responding :)

India is my home country and I have been there since childhood. I have all my relatives in india. Apparently it is not living "somewhere" for 6 months. I have mentioned that I have been in US for the last 1.5 years working. And consulting the consulate is a sure thing. But then I just wanted to gather some more information before contacting them. Anyone who has prior experience or knowledge on this are welcome to guide me :)

Thanks,

Priya

Well like mentioned before u need residency. I did DCF in Italy and when I sent the packet to Rome for DCF the told me I also needed to send my permission to stay and resident card. To make sure I'm not there illegally. I've been living in Italy for three years so I'm above the requirements. But I also met a girl at the consulate whose military husband is back at the states and she's doing DCF.. so best bet is to contact the main consulate where the interview will take place and ask them for further instructions.
