Hello VJ'ers,

My husband had his interview yesterday and passed!!!  He will have his oath ceremony one week from tomorrow.  Here is how it went:

We got there at 10:30, since our appointment was at 11:00.  The security guards in OKC are very delightful and like to joke around.  They took our ID's and appointment paper and had us go through the detectors.  The security guard then asked me to slip the appointment paper into the slot at the window, and we had a seat in the waiting room.  30 minutes had passed and my husband was called back to his interview.  There was no tv in the small waiting room and as soon as I decided to take a nap, he came walking out, asking if his oath ceremony date was a good date for us.  We then high fived!!!  I asked about his interview and he said she started with the writing test and then asked him the civics questions, followed by the questions on his application. She also did not look at any of the documents we had brought but did ask for his passport photos.  It was the only thing we didn't bring because it wasn't stated on the appointment letter.  She told him that he could bring them to the oath ceremony.  She then asked which ceremony dates would be good for him and handed him a paper with the ceremony information and a questionnaire he has to fill out the day of the ceremony.

A timeline of our whole process is below:

K1 Visa Application was sent on 11-10-2011

Approved: 06-20-2012 in Ankara, Turkey

Visa Received: 07-03-2012

Entered US 07-11-2012

Married - 07-19-2012

AOS Application submitted to Oklahoma City on 10-01-2012

EAD and AP received on 12-17-2012

Greencard received on 08-10-2013

Lifting Conditions Application sent to Cali Service Center on 07-24-2015

Approved on 01-21-2016

Received on 01-29-2016

Naturalization Application sent to Lewisville TX on 01-06-2017

Interview date on 09-11-2017

Oath Ceremony 09-20-2017

Our whole process was pain free.  We had on little hiccup during his K1 Visa Interview but he was able to immediately get that resolved the same day.  Every other application and interview went on with zero issues!

Good luck on each of your journeys.  I know it is a lot of work and money but in the end, the reward is amazing!!!

Good luck with your interview!  It will be a breeze.

My husband had his oath ceremony yesterday.  It went pretty smooth.  We got there around 8:30, he was the first there.  They let him in but asked my daughter and I to stay in the car until they got each of the ones taking their oath, inside.  Later, we saw a line forming outside, so we hopped in it.  They were only taking a few family members in at a time but it didn't take too long until we got in.  I would say the whole process from when we arrived until the end of the ceremony took about 3 hours.  You are allowed to bring cameras to take photos and record video.  They give you moments during the ceremony when you can get up and take pictures...they were very good about all of that.

And also with the passport photos....my husband took his to the ceremony, like he was asked, but they used a prior picture of him on his certificate.  We basically wasted our money.  I would so go ahead and take them to your interview.

Once again, Good Luck!!!

Thank you! And congrats to your husband on becoming a U.S. citizen! I'm curious - were there many people at the oath ceremony who got sworn in? Did the OKC office let all family members in? Just wondering because I would like to invite my in-laws to the oath ceremony, but don't want to ask them unless I can be fairly certain that they will be admitted. I know some offices restrict the number of family members/friends who are allowed to attend the oath ceremony due to space issues.

There were 30 people that were sworn in.  They allowed in everyone that came.  My parents and a close friend of our family came to the ceremony.  Also, we asked after his interview how many people we could bring and they said bring anyone you want.  I would make sure to have them there early in line so they can get a better seat!  My parents actually arrived way before us (we don’t live in the same city) and they let them in to use the bathroom and made sure they were first to sit down.  The security guys there were great!!!

Thank you SO much for the information! The number of people sworn in sounds very reasonable. I read in some bigger cities with a larger immigrant community they swear in up to 2,000 people at a time - sounds crazy!
