Do they check immigrant's social media?

Will the social media (Facebook, Twitter, Email account .... etc.) of the applicant be checked at any step of the immigration process (USCIS, NVC, Consulate Interview, and POE)? What is their effects on the decision of the officers? and How?

Did any of you go through this before?

I didn't go through an embassy...but I have heard of a person's Facebook and emails being looked at by POE officials, and at some USCIS interviews as reported by others here in various threads.

I've heard that it's happened to people at the embassy stage. and some people at the POE.
