It will take 2 to 4 weeks for them to cash your check and send you an email with your receipt number.

If you didn't add the g-1145 (for an electronic update) in the package you just have to wait for the hardcopy that could eventually take a little longer than 4 weeks.

Our AOS package has been received in Chicago. Roughly how long will it take for the check to clear my bank and them to send me a case number?

The waiting game begins, Like @Scandi said, there is no definite time frame with USCIS, timing differs. Generally 2-4 weeks to get a Receipt Notice due to the backlog at the USCIS.

Good luck in your AOS process.

We just got the notice today for her biometric appointment. That's 3 weeks since they received it. That seems a little quick to me. So far, our processing has gone rather quickly at every step of the process.
