Hi! I am a 2 year conditional green card holder and my husband is a US citizen.

My husband got a job offer under an american company in Bahamas and it has great benefits and my husband is planning to take the job and bring me with him.

My problem is, Bahamas is outside the US and im wondering if it would affect my ROC on January 2019. However we're planning to stay in Bahamas only until august 2018.

What we're thinking is I could just reenter in Miami every 4 months so that I wont need to get a reentry permit. Would that be fine? And should I get a mailing address in Miami even if we're gonna be staying in Bahamas for a year?

I would really appreciate all of your insights regarding this matter, thank you so much!!

The issue with being abroad for extended periods is that a requirement for maintaining legal permanent resident (LPR) status is US residency. If it appears that you have abandoned US residency, then your LPR status may be revoked. Just re-entering the US will not demonstrate US residency. You generally need to be in the US longer than you are out of it. I suggest getting the re-entry permit.

ROC covers the legitimacy of the marriage, so it shouldn't matter for that. It may affect your timeline for when you can apply for citizenship later due to the physical presence requirement.

Thank you so much for your reply, geowrian! It is really a big help! So would just apply for a reentry permit so that my LPR status wont be revoked. But what if we'd want to travel to the US from the Bahamas from time to time? Could I still use my green card even if I have the reentry permit?
