Not sure if you can change your FIRST name during the wedding ceremony, as that'll require the courts to sign off on that, HOWEVER...

Let's say your name is currently ADAM SMITH, and you're taking your husbands' last name LAWSON, simultaneously you change your first name to EVE, so your new name is now from ADAM SMITH to EVE LAWSON. Your maiden name would be EVE SMITH, however you should still put that ADAM was a previous first name when it asks you for 'other names you go by' or if it explicitly asks you if your name changed. Maiden name refers explicitly to your last name, not your new first name.

I hope that helps.

Ohhh. I see. I am from Iowa. They allowed me to change my first name and put it on the marriage licensed without going to any court hearing etc.  so it can be changed when we get our Marriage certificate.
Needless to say. I find your answer helpful. It does make sense now. thanks!!!!
