Hi, guys! We are submitting our papers to Texas either tomorrow or the day after it. My passport is going to expire on August 2018. Should I renew my passport or am I even allowed by Phils. DFA to renew it?

April 28, 2017- I-129F packet sent to Dallas Lockbox

May 1, 2017 - NOA1 Received Date

May 3, 2017 - NOA1 Notice Date

Sept 28, 2017 - NOA2

Oct 12, 2017 - Case Number AT NVC

                         Oct 17- IN TRANSIT
                         Oct 18 -  READY

Oct 16 & 17, 2017 - Medical
Oct 24, 2017 - Interview, approved!

                          Oct 25 - Administrative Processing

                          Oct 26 - Issued
Oct 25, 2017 - CFO Seminar

Nov 2, 2017 - Visa on hand
Nov 13, 2017 - POE, Seattle

Dec 16, 2017 - Wedding day

You should renew your passport.  Here is the link to understand the process https://www.passport.gov.ph/  You need at least 6 months validity to your passport to travel and the visa process is 6-8 months depending, but you may come up short. So go and have your passport renewed.

 

Also, you have discovered VJ and it is full of information on how you can personally complete your visa WITHOUT a lawyer!  This is a simple process and with a community of ppl to help you, it's a simple process that you can do yourself.

I don't know if DFA will allow you to renew your passport with over a year remaining.   You may have to zing them and ask.

I couldn't find anything on the DFA site restricting renewing your passport early.

(OK, curious question.  You hired a lawyer to complete everything for you, wouldn't he know to use the newest forms available from USCIS?  Just curious.  ;))
