Hi Everyone, thanks for being here...I'm worried but not sure how much I should be..I always fear dealing with the Govt. but actually have never done anything wrong.

I am a U.S. Born Citizen Married to a Mexican immigrant since 2009, she got her green card in Aug 2009 we have one beautiful son together.

My wife has her interview for N-400 application on Monday in looking at the submitted app we noticed for the first time we made a really stupid error on accident we reviewed this thing so many times I cannot believe we missed it. On part 5 previous residence history we forgot an apartment we previously lived in. It was the one before our current (basically same address / building but we had to move to the apt 5 feet away across the hall due to remodeling. Can we fix the N-400 at the time of interview and apologize for the error or will this be a major issue and looked at as lying. Honestly I'm so mad at ourselves for this stupid error but it's done and we are freaking out a bit as to what is going to happen. We have the lease from the old apt. Most all other forums just say to take the corrected page to the interview with the address in there and explain before the oath that she needs to make a correction to the n-400. Is this the proper way to proceed, we have no reason to lie, is stupid a reason to be denied or deported? Thank you I'm really worried for her. My head is taking me places I don't want to go, like deportation.

Thank you for any advice you can provide.

I'm not 100% sure, but I would say your best bet is to re-do that page and bring to the interview.

I doubt it's a serious issue.  Oversights happen.

I made errors on my i765 and i485 in eligibility coding and my visa number, respectively.  I felt sick to my stomach and when I went to infopass he told me not to sweat it, clerical things like that aren't fatal errors.  Both of my applications were approved without incident.  (I did send in notices of correction)

Hoping it's the same outcome for you!

Thank you Cryssiekins for the reply!

Our plan is to correct the page in question, and before the IO asks my wife to raise her right hand, she is going to (calmly) mention she has a correction to the application and let the officer take it from there. My only fear is that the mistake we made is so simple that it will look suspect, I honestly have no idea how we missed it, we lived there a year, I think we were focused on the other important info like travel dates ect...the honest answer will be, I don't know how we missed it but we did. We will also bring leases and bills that show the same timeframes as the corrected page.

I'm sure its wrong to say, but I just really worry about these things, like they are looking for a reason to deny, but I think that's just my fear talking...

Thank you again for the quick reply!

Believe me... I know the fear all too well.  My husband thinks I'm crazy, but it's maddening when it's your own oversight.

Logically, I think you'll be fine.  There are more important things they are concerned with.  Missing an address is clerical and this could have happened to anyone, and certainly has.

I think they ask for the places you lived so they can do appropriate background checks. Since you were in the same building with the same landlord, address, and everything, I doubt it'll have serious consequences. Now if you had lived in a completely different state for a year and neglected to mention that, that would be a problem.

Your plan sounds good, but stress immediately that it was a different apartment in the same building at (basically) the same address.

I'd say since she's getting interviewed there's nothing to worry about. Obviously they did the background check, and, If there was something serious you most likely would have been notified loong time.

I cleaned My Timeline. Hope nobody minds

I want to thank you all for your responses!

we found the error last night and it has been hell since but I'm very thankful you all are here to share!

Just mention it during the interview and you'll be fine. The only issue may be that if your wife has a green card or some similar type of visa that allows her to be here, the USCIS requires her to advise them of a change of address within a week or so of moving using form AR-11. So if you had already notified the USCIS that you lived at this address, then letting them know of the omission from the N-400 during the interview will be straightforward as your wife doesn't have to sign to confirm everything is true and correct until the end of the interview. If you didn't file form AR-11 to let USCIS know of this address when you lived there, the interview officer may ask why however I don't think it is a deal breaker given that you moved from one apt to the other in the same building due to a remodel by the landlord. The interview is a chance to make sure everything is correct. Let us know how it went.
