Hey guys, first post here. Petitioned for my parents (via 2 separate packages), was sent to Potomac Office. These wait times are long! Timeline is below:

Apr 7 17 - Sent via Fedex

Apr 10 17 - Received at Chicago

Apr 12 17 - Received emails confirming receipt

Apr 17 17 - Received confirmation letters via mail

At present the online status stays Your case was received... we have sent you the receipt which tells you how the case would be processed and please follow the instructions. But I did not see anything stating how it would be processed and no instructions to follow. Is this the normal message when checking the status online?

And, what status do you all have at present?

There is a a cover form that you fill out if you wish to have them acknowledge it. Called a G-1145.

I have a question. I know that if I file for both of my parents it is a separate I-130 form for each parent. But the question is if it also applies to the fee. Is it a fee for each parent or just one fee for both parents?

Hi Malican and welcome,

Yes the message that you receive is the normal message.  Now is just wait until approval or if there is any issues (any documents missing) they will let you know.  Try NOT to think about the wait time ... try to focus on something else ... even though it seems a lot but time is flying fast and also I believe that everything is moving fast.  Let all hope for the best ! :jest:

Do you know which paper work should we start gathering for NVC? Thanks.

Hi Sherlock23,

For what I have been checking…

We need to gather financial paperwork :

  1. I completed the I-864 (I didn’t dated nor sign it)

  2. Income tax documentation ( I  already requested the transcript from the IRS for 2014, 2015 & 2016)

  3. Pay Stubs

  4. Work letter ( I am requesting it once my case is transfer to the NVC).

Also in addition:

  1. Copy of birth certificate

  2. Copy of unexpired passport

  3. Police certificate (In my case is not needed since I am requesting a minor)

  4. Marriage certificate

I know there are other documents for at the moment this is all that I have.

Hi Juanita & David,

from what is my understanding you have to pay 2for each I-130 since you are doing 2 separate petitions.  However I might be wrong.  Hopefully someone else can help you.
