Hello Everyone,

I just recieved my welcome letter last night. The cover letter they ask that you attatched is very confusing. I have all the documents for Packet IV. But on section 3 of the cover letter it asks for the following documents. My question is what documents do I need for a CR-1? I have already read the wiki but this list is confudsing. Some of these seem repeated , if i ordered a IRS tax trasnript would't it have my W2s and Federal Income Tax returns? I have bolded the documents I am unsure about.

3. Signed Affidavit of Support (s)

Proof of U.S. status

Proof of Domicile

Petitoner's Civil Documents ?

Proof of relationship (only for I-864A)

Evidence of Income

Form(s) W-2

IRS Tax Transcript

Federal Income Tax Returns

Social Security Earnings Statement

Proof of Assets

Other Supoprting Documents

You can submit these documents for the following

Proof of US Status: Naturalization Certificate or copy of biographic page of US Passport

Proof of Domicile: US Driver's License or something to show that you live in the US like utility bills, lease doc, etc

Civil Documents: Marriage Cert, Divorce certs (if divorced before), birth certs, police certs, prison records, military records

Evidence of income: W2, letter from employer showing salary, pay stubs etc

Social Security Earnings Statement: You can go online to get a copy of your statement or view it online. Go to www.ssa.gov/mystatement/ and open an account with Social Security to view yourstatement.

IRS Tax transcript: Get it online or by mail. It usually has information from your filed federal tax returns

Hope this helps

You don't need to submit everything on the list. When I submitted the packets to the NVC, I included:

- Cover letter

- I-864

- Three years of tax transcripts. (Ordered them online.) You can choose to submit tax returns, but make sure you include W2s with them returns.

- Paystubs from work to show proof of continued income, but not required.

- Letter from employer showing salary...again proof on income, but not required.

- Copy of the photo page in my passport

- Copy of marriage license

- Not required, but I included additional evidence that I wanted the CO to have before the interview. (A recent trip, updated chats, etc).

For the other packet:

- Cover page

- Copy of hubby's police report

- Copy of hubby's birth certificate

- Copy of photo passport page

- And again a copy of the marriage license just in case

We got through the NVC phase easily and no check lists. I hope this helps.

  • Proof of US Status is only required if the US spouse completed Form I-864 as a joint sponsor, in which case they would need to submit proof that they are a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or Lawful Permanent Resident.
  • Proof of Domicile is only required if the US spouse completed Form I-864, I-864A, or I-864EZ and their mailing address and/or place of residence is not in the United States, but their country of domicile is the United States.  They would then need to write an explanation and provide documentary evidence indicating how they meet the domicile requirement.
  • Social Security Earnings is only required if the principal applicant completed Form I-864W because he or she can be credited with 40 eligible quarters under the Social Security Act.
