Hi guys.. I'm a US Citizen in the UK.

My Husband is a UK Citizen and He is our sole earner.  I haven't worked while here in the UK for the past 10 yrs.  So .. I've had no need to file US tax returns ( or so i was led to believe )

We are doing Direct Consular Filing in London for his Immigration visa to go back to the States and have my dad as a co-sponsor and a home in the US as asset as well.

Is me NOT having a tax return going to be a problem? How can I prove I haven't worked in the UK or at all since leaving the US 10 yrs ago?  If there IS something i need to file ... any advice on how to do that?

thanks..

Heather

You are required to fill out an I -864 even if you put zero income and unemployed. You are also required to submit your latest tax return OR A STATEMENT (in your case) saying something like I was not required to file an income tax return in 2014, 2015, 2016 because I was not employed and earned zero dollars in income. Sign it and place it behind your I-864.

Your  dad will also do his I-864 and send his latest tax return as well as proof of his US citizenship. If he files jointly with a wife, he needs proof of his own separate income since the tax return lumps all income together and they would not know if he earned enough to be the sponsor.
