POE via Greyhound

I've been wondering whether anyone has entered the U.S. from Canada via Greyhound using their K1? If so how did it go and how long did it take? It already takes long enough to go through customs when you're on a full bus so just wondering if it would hold them up etc. Especially if the officers don't really tend to have the experience having someone enter on a K1. Just something I've been curious about.

Normally at POE, you have to queue at immigration as usual. When it's your turn, you tell them you're immigrating and you have to go to a different area and hand over your envelope of documents. An immigration officer reviews your documents then summons you for some questions. The paperwork is processed. Then you proceed to customs like everyone else.

Even assuming that an immigration officer is able to review your documents straight away (ie. there's no queue) and that there are no problems with your case, it's extremely unlikely your bus will still be waiting for you by the time you get out.

But maybe Greyhound would let you get on the next bus that comes along (if there's a space)?

Thanks! That's what I wanted to know. Sounds like I'd be better off just flying. Through JFK or something for that EAD stamp. ;-)

Why not just call ur local greyhound to find out??

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

If you fly into JFK you have to remember that if flying out of Canada your POE would be US Customs and Immigration at one of the Canadian Airports, unless you plan to fly out of Canada via a 3rd country and then fly into JFK

they only time I've ever taken the bus across the border, there was 4 full buses lined up and only 5 CBP officers to "interview" everyone! I ended up missing my connecting bus, and had to spend the night in the Buffalo terminal.

I don't think that the bus can legally leave without all passengers, so if you are delayed with processing a K1, then you will be holding up the entire bus load of people. Probably not a good idea.

And as Lance mentioned, if you're flying from Canada, you will not get your EAD stamp at JFK because you clear customs in Canada, not the US. Unless you want to fly to somewhere in the Caribbean, Mexico, or the UK first, then return through JFK.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

i'm goona cross by greyhound via peace bidge... the bus terminal is close from the border so i'll take a cab it the next bus does'nt have a place for me...

it happened once the officers questioned me more because i brought my guitar and they thought i was going there for a gig ( duh )... once they were finally greet my passage, i had to catch another bus, so i guess it will be the same for entering with a k visa... greyhound won't delay a whole bus for one person, any transportation company won't either
