Hi,

 

My wife and I are preparing documents for the interview process at a US Embassy in India.

 

As far as bring supporting marriage documents, is bringing a copy of the marriage certificate enough or should she have the original copy with her?

I believe it is a wise choice to take originals of all things needed, such as birth certificate, marriage certificate, boarding passes (if any) etc.

 

"Original and Supporting Documents – Original documents (or certified copies) and a photocopy of each document (with the exception of your passport and photographs) are required for you and each family member applying for a visa. As explained in the Interview Preparation webpage, the NVC will forward your application and any other documents you sent to the NVC to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate prior to your interview. 

 

You must bring all your original forms and documents with you.

Your original documents will be returned to you when the interview has been completed. The photocopies will be kept."

If they filed married filing jointly and wife reported income then yes all w2s are required.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

 

I should have mentioned this would be for an I-130 petition, already married.  

 

I have a few more questions.

 

1.  If I do not have the original boarding passes would an electronic itinerary of my travel info be sufficient?

 

2.  I was told different approaches to verify financial support via "affidavit of support" document.

 

My impression is I should fill out the I-134 and include the supporting documents.  But when I spoke with an USCIS Agent over the phone they stated I don't need to worry about it until my wife gets her VISA and comes to the US and then I send I-864.

 

Which is correct?

All originals.. Birth cert, Marriage cert, Divorce decrees, etc.. should be carried to the interview.

What about my US citizenship document?  A copy was sent to USCIS to establish my legal residence in the US.

 

Would my wife need the original with her in India for interview?

 

I would think if USCIS was satisfied with a copy then a copy of my US citizenship would be sufficient for an embassy.
