FOREIGN POLICE CERTIFICATES VALIDITY PERIOD

Hi everyone..

I just wanna asked if POLICE CLEARANCE FROM ABROAD HAS ITS VALIDITY PERIOD?

I worked in Singapore year 2012 and Japan 2003 before, and last 2013 I took a police clearance of both countries... and I still got the original police clearances of the said countries.

Now we're applying for K1 visa and one of the requirements there is foreign police clearance... is it OK to present my police clearances of both countries hence I took those last 2013 or do I have to get a new one for this year 2017. Thank u. U r answer is highly appreciated. God bless

Hi!

 

You need to get a new one for all foreign countries except those unobtainable without personal appearance like UAE or others check the reciprocity. Singapore is only valid for 6 months from issuance and it should state that its for Immigrant Purpose to USA.

 

You can get the COC in http://www.police.gov.sg/e-services/apply/certificate-of-clearance get it done soon since it would take like 2 weeks for me to get it but given I am here in SG not sure how long it would take to have it shipped to Philippines. God bless on your case.

Thank u. I had read from some site that no need for me to update the foreign police clearance if am not currently living there..

Hi Jill,

Don't worry your interview will go great. Go to the website the consulate and look up the instructions for K1 visa applications. Somewhere in the check list it gives some information about the police certificates. It differs according to embassies.

That only applies for country that police clearance cant be obtain. You would probably in 221g for missing documents after the interview. I would suggest to get start processing it now to cut the wait. I had my interview last Dec. 27 and got 221g for missing documents too I had it submitted recently and still waiting for the update. either you call and try to reschedule or go to interview but expect the wait. There is no way they will issue you a visa without the PCC from Singapore. I am not sure if Japan is unobtainable.

You don't need new certificates if you obtained the previous ones AFTER you ceased residing there. When you think about it that makes perfect sense.

Police certificates expire after one year, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued.

Well that was my case I had worked in Qatar got Police Clearance and never came back since 2010. Submitted the old PCC at NVC stage but Ive got case case complete with a checklist to bring updated PCC during interview.

 

Qatar PCC can be secured despite no longer living there through their embassy. Need to furnished Physical fingerprints duly certified etc. It took them 2 months to send it to me. And true enough it was ask during the interview. Like I said it depends on the country if it can be obtain they will surely ask for it as long as you were 16 yrs old onwards residing on that place 6 months or more.

Thank u so much Limey.. I never returned to Japan since 2003 and Singapore I went back there 2014 for 1 month only for pleasure purpose.

So it means no need for me to get a new one right?

The website does say "have not returned" rather "have not resided" there. A return visit (vacation) would seem to mean that you have returned. However it would seem a little illogical to then require a new certificate, when other people who'd gone on vacation for one month would not require one.

 

If they aren't too complex to obtain from Singapore, I'd get one just to be sure. In my case I'd lived in the UAE. Although in most cases a waiver can be obtained (because UAE certificates are hard to obtain once you've left), I obtained one just to be on the safe side (as the waiver isn't automatic, and some people are asked to provide the certificate).

I was interviewed last Feb 8, and tnx God they don't require an updated COC from abroad for as long as u don't reside there anymore since the day u left the country.

Visa approved Feb 8

Visa Issued Feb 9

Visa on Hand Feb 15

Flight Feb 20
