Received a receipt in the mail today. It's a I-797C, Notice of Action. I am assuming this is what everyone refers to as a NOA1? Also, I keep looking for how much Dan needs to take with him to get his visa? I know it's $170 to file. I've paid that. How much more do I need to keep available? Another question I have is I got my NOA1 from Laguna Niguel, CA. I sent my petition to Mesquite, TX. Does this mean it's been forwarded to CA for processing? The receipt number starts with WAC? Thanks for any and all help in response to my questions. :)

You need to search for other members going through Canadian consulate to get correct answers on fees for this part of your visa journey. And look at the links from the tabs above for those consulates - most have websites.

As to when he gets over here, you are gonna need about $800 put back to process his AOS, etc.

I was actually referring to the visa itself as I believe his medical will be free as he is from Canada. So if I am understanding this correctly, he will need $100 on the day he goes for his interview to pay for his Visa? Then after he gets here we will need more for his AOS and EAD?

Congratulations on getting in the system -

I dont' know how things work in Canada.

My fiance is from Korea and I just did a little research on the U.S. Embassy website and this is how it works there: You can't pay the 100 at the embassy, it has to be paid through a certain bank before you send in the visa application to the consulate - it's US 100 dollars but has to be paid in Korean money - the bank gives you a receipt, which you then mail in with your application to the consulate. Canada may work completely differently! Probably the U.S. embassy website there will provide information.

- The Visa itself is $100 US, paid when he goes for his interview.

- The medical fee varies, I think I paid $180 cdn. It is not free or 'covered' by Provincial healthcare. The amount of US Passport photos for the medical varies as well, I only needed 1, others have needed 3. He will also need 2 for his interview.

- A WAC # means it was transfered to the CSC

His medical will not be free, as he is getting it for an American visa, and not as part of standard medical care. He will also have to pay for the x-ray, and bloodwork. I had to pay a chunk for the medical, and then about $125 or so for the x-ray and bloodwork. When he calls the doctor's office for the appointment, they will give him the rundown on fees.

For Canadian consulates, you pay your $100 fee in US dollars the day of your visa interview.

If you are looking for more Canadian specific information, check out the top two links in my signature.

Best wishes!

Myheart, I just noticed your Dan is in Toronto (me too!)

If he goes to Seiden for his medical he can also go to the Commissionaires for his police certificate, they're pretty close to each other. I went for the medical, went over to get my Police Certificate and picked both up a few days later.

Here's a list of who can do the medical

and here's a list of Commissionaire locations

http://www.fingerprintingservice.com/locations.html. The Downtown Toronto Commissionaires charges $35 cdn for the Police Ceritificate, plus tax

The good thing is if he takes a morning off work and can get to downtown Toronto he can get to all these places,

medical, police certificate, passport & long form birth certificate

I momentarily forgot how much this process sucks ;)

If I remember right, my medical in Toronto cost almost $200. I think they vary by doctor. It's also a good idea to get any vaccinations you need done before you have your medical so its up to date.
