stock up on any food stuffs that will be missed in the US. Like chocolate, (hot) tea, Shreddies, Tim Horton's coffee (unless of course you're lucky enough to live in a state that has Timmy's), Gravol, off the shelf muscle relaxants, over the counter 222s with codiene, (everything is by prescription here in the US!), I think even the Claritin in Canada works better than the stuff here for some reason.

Of course, after a while, its all going to run out and you'll have to make a drug run....erm...trip home...but that should keep you going for a little while anyhow. ;)

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

I can't imagine a box of Shreddies lasting for long. Haha.

One time coming back from Saskatoon, my big suitcase was 90% filled with Scotties toilet paper!! I hated the TP here, until I found the Costco stuff!! And of course going through Toronto to DC they searcgh every bag!! The screener just gave me a weird look!! lol

HAHAHAHA... that's funny.

C. will be moving down (not soon enough!) soon, and we're trying to ensure that we have as smooth a transition as possible into AOS and our life here.

I'm trying to gather a list of things -- paperwork, mostly -- that we will need once he's here, things that might slip through the cracks on a first pass, or that you didn't think of until later.

For example: the paperwork indicating that his car is up to American emissions standards. Not something I would have thought of had I not read it here.

Anything like that? Anything that you found that you needed and wished that you'd done that/ordered the copy/etc before leaving Canada?

Thanks!

I dont Know how dated these links are but I found them very informative..

Something else I wish I had thought of - make digital copies of the excellent passport pictures I had taken at Shoppers Drug Mart instead about having to worry about taking (and paying for) new ones for the AOS process.

Mo, that's a good idea. I know I'm sick of having to take more passport photos! I think I have 2 left which I'm sending in for my EAD, but I'll need more for AOS (I'm filing them separately).

*bump*

I scanned the 2 passport photos I had left, put it 4-up on a 4"x6" page and got a few sheets printed out at CVS on their Kodak photo machine thingy. Total cost for two 4"x6" sheets (8 photos in total), 60 cents. Sure beats the $20 Cdn I paid for two!

For K visa holders, you'll need 2 to submit for AOS and 2 to submit for EAD. So make good copies of your US sized passport photos before you end up submitting them all for your medical and K visa!

Or, if you have AAA, they will do them for free.

Oh, this isn't a tip for leaving Canada but I thought I'd put it here since we're talking about photos. The photos you submit for AOS & EAD are NOT going to be on your actual cards. The photo they take at your biometrics will go on your cards, so make sure you brush your hair before you go to your biometrics appointment. :) I almost showed up makeup-less with messy hair because we were going to leave early for the appointment. Luckily I read in the AOS forum about the photos.

I went almost 6 months on an expired drivers license because I was having a " bad hair season " and I looked fat......well...... I was fat but I didnt have to look it

Good tip. I didn't know about the picture at the biometrics appointment beforehand, either. Luckily, I was dressed nicely because I had just come from the local CIS office. But that doesn't mean it will be a good pic. LOL
