Any work on US soil without authorization (without some very specific circumstances...self employment is not one of them) is not permitted.

thank u but still confused if working in site survey and games lestening to radio .... need licence or not ? is that consedered as self employement when filling form n400?

I doubt any license is needed. However, licenses are issues by a governing body within that trade, not necessarily the government (i.e. nursing license, plumbing license, etc.). Work authorization is different - that allows you to work in either any capacity (i.e. an EAD) or within a specialized occupation (i.e. H1B visa). A work authorization is required for performing work while in the US.

 

If you mean answering questions on a website survey and such....technically, yes. A work authorization is required as you are earning income. Prize winnings would not need work authorization as prizes are won, not earned via work, AFAIK. I doubt anybody really cares if it's just some one-offs for very small amounts of money. That type of income would generally fall under 1099-MISC tax-wise (prizes, hobbies, etc.). If you reported it for tax purposes, you should note it on any other forms to be consistent.

 

Technically, the online survey work would be self employment. That said, I would be surprised if people are always reporting it that way.

thank u but since im having green card and im permanent resident  still need to apply for work autorisation? sign up with those companies is free and they dont ask for any autorisation .

if its reported as hobby in tax  it should not need autorisation ? at interview n400 day they will ask for autorisation ?

Oh, you have a green card already? That serves as a work authorization document already. You should be fine.

 

Free signup or not, responsibility falls on the person obtaining the income.

I would just list it as self employment. That said, your tax returns should generally match this.

i already mention it as hobby in last tax 2015 but still confused plz ill be not asked at interview for having autorisation to work in survey while having green card /? when i started filling the form n 400 for citizenship should l list each survey company with name and adress or write only self employement in job case / i appreciate your help if u have question plz ansewe me

Then you should be fine. You claimed it on your taxes, and you have a green card, which means you are already authorized for work.

 

Per my last last comment, I would just list it as self employment (as I would with any hobby income):

NO it is NOT legal to do any kind of work until you are authorized to do so.

i just got ansewer that it s consedered as hobby not work and should be listedat tax and i read topic written from lawyer that the last member ansewer send me that should be consideredas self employed and mailing adress should be listed too and green card allow people to work and study and consedered as autorisation did u read the ansewer of the last member ? when signing up to survey company they ask for green card holder or citizen aim confused//
