"Check my status" - when does it update?

We submitted our I-130 in mid May. It went to the Nebraska service center. I received an email and a text message when it was received. Now it's been nearly six months, and I'm getting nervous that maybe a decision has been made, but I haven't received any information about it because of being in Honduras (can't receive text messages here on the number I gave; I did give them my Honduran mailing address, but the mail here isn't reliable). I check the status on the USCIS page regularly - that page would update if we went from NOA1 to NOA2, right, or if they needed more info? Even if I didn't receive any emails or text messages or mail, can I assume the online status would DEFINITELY be updated? All it has said for six months is that my case was received.

For some people it updates, and for others it doesn't. You should call USCIS to inquire about your petition!

Just for a heads up, too, once your petition is approved, it will not be sent directly to NVC - you'll have to wait for them to send it along, which could take 1-4 weeks as well.

Good luck with everything!
